James Blunt - Nottingham Motorpoint Arena

I was rambling around on my so-called "WRITING LAPTOP" and I bumped into a folder called downloaded media - so peeped inside and there were a lot of pictures and movies of some artists - some well-known. About a year ago I decided to be a spendthrift for a few months and go to a load of big name gigs - regardless of cost. I don't quite remember what I was celebrating or maybe what I thought might happen afterwards that would restrict me from attending music (and other) gigs. I love music; my wife does to a level too. It's ironic when I look at my current health situation (Sept 2018) which is not great - so (although I went to a gig in Lincoln two days ago) I am necessarily fairly gig-averse at present as I just can't do anything ... like dance or bop around. I cannot even tap my feet or move around at all much and cannot sit in one position for long - what a mess.

Originally I was not going to place a title on this or maybe even any video (but I have now) so anyway here's some stuff from (a random period) - way back.

Maybe (just thought of this as I type away in the late early hours after 'a bad night' and getting up far too early for the sleep I really need but am struggling to get) I should, now that I am beginning to learn about YouTube from the inside (rather than just as a consumer of content), do a review of this gig with Mr. Blunt.

Review:

  1. We love going to this venue anyway. Why? It seems very relaxed, informal, utilitarian in design - rather like a cavernous, tall, tinny warehouse (I think it may also be used for hockey etc.) and the 'locals' Nottingham folk seem pretty friendly (although saying that I do have some neighbours, originally Notts folk, who show the antipathy of friendliness - but there's always good and bad around I suppose).
  2. I have always liked James Blunt (yes I know a lot of people think he's "wet" and I admit when he is interviewed he can come across as 'soft' and almost a little effeminate but he doesn't as far as we know 'play for the other team' and I wouldn't care if he did anyway - that's his business). My wife who came with me to this gig had been a reluctant companion as she was at best neutral about him. She changed her mind almost within the first five minutes of his performance. I too was very pleasantly amazed by his performance.
  3. Why was I amazed? - Well, I liked him anyway (on disc, as it were - oh there's a dated description) but what happened and I would never have guessed or expected is he had great presence and natural audience- engagement - he WAS a performer - he WAS an entertainer, he WAS a showman. He was also very natural and relaxed and genuine I thought. He was also quite amusing.
  4. In conclusion he was brilliant and we both enjoyed him and I would go again to see him.
